কারওয়ান বাজারের ২৫ টাকার পেঁয়াজ এখন ৮০ টাকায় বিক্রি করছে ব্যবসায়ীরা। গত সপ্তাহে এর দাম ছিল ৭০ টাকা। ঈদুল ফিতরের পরে ধীরে ধীরে বাড়তে থাকে পেঁয়াজের দাম। মাত্র এক মাসের মধ্যে দাম বেড়ে হয়ে যায় দ্বিগুণের বেশি।
রাজধানীর কাঁচাবাজারে এক সপ্তাহের ব্যবধানে পেঁয়াজের দাম বেড়েছে ১০ থেকে ১৩ টাকা।
শুক্রবার (১৯ মে) রাজধানীর বিভিন্ন বাজার পরিদর্শন করে দেখা গেছে, আজ প্রতি কেজি পেঁয়াজ ৮০ টাকায় বিক্রি হচ্ছে, যা এক সপ্তাহ আগে ছিল ৭০ টাকা।রাজধানীর একটি বাজারের পেঁয়াজ বিক্রেতা মিন্ট চন্দ্র বলেন, আজ পাইকারি বাজারে দাম কিছুটা বেড়েছে। এখন কিনতে হচ্ছে ৭৩ টাকা কেজিতে। সেজন্য ৮০ টাকার কমে খুচরা বিক্রি করা যাচ্ছে না।
কাউরান বাজারের বিক্রেতা দুদু মিয়া বলেন, ঈদের আগে আমরা ২৮ টাকায় পেঁয়াজ বিক্রি করতাম। ঈদের পর দফায় দফায় বেড়ে তা ৮০ টাকায় বিক্রি করছি। গত সপ্তাহে দাম কিছুটা কমে ৭০ থেকে ৭৫ টাকা হয়েছিল। এখন আবার বেড়েছে।
যদিও কৃষি মন্ত্রণালয় দাবি করে আসছে, দেশে এখনো পেঁয়াজের কোনো সংকট নেই। চলতি অর্থবছরে পেঁয়াজের উৎপাদন দাঁড়িয়েছে ৩৪ লাখ ১৭ হাজার টনে। গত ১০ বছরে উৎপাদন বেড়েছে ৩ গুণ । বর্তমানে ১৮ লাখ ৩১ হাজার ১৭০ টন পেঁয়াজ মজুত আছে।
মজুত পেঁয়াজের উল্লেখযোগ্য অংশই এখন মধ্যস্বত্বভোগীদের হাতে জানিয়ে মন্ত্রণালয় বলছে, মধ্যস্বত্বভোগীরাই এখন সিন্ডিকেট করে দাম বাড়াচ্ছে। প্রয়োজনে পেঁয়াজ আমদানির অনুমতির কথাও বলছে মন্ত্রণালয়।

Dudu Mia, a seller of Kauran Bazaar, said, "Before Eid, we used to sell onions for Tk 28. I am selling it at 80 taka after Eid. Last week, the price fell slightly to Tk 70 to Tk 75. Now it has increased again.
Although the Ministry of Agriculture has been claiming, there is no shortage of onions in the country yet. In the current financial year, the production of onion has reached 34 lakh 17 thousand tons. In the last 10 years production has increased 3 times. At present, 18 lakh 31 thousand 170 tons of onions are stored.
The Ministry says that a significant part of the stocked onion is now in the hands of the middlemen, and the middlemen are now increasing the prices by syndicating. If necessary, the ministry is also talking about permission to import onions.
